Why is it better to spin on a bare hook shank?

Spinning and/or stacking produces much fuller bodies and heads because 
you're able to put much more hair in a smaller space. Keywords for 
stacking are: hair without underfur, a very strong thread that will lay 
flat, spinning the hair on a bare hook shank, and a great deal of of 
thread and packing pressure.
