Don't play with fire, Eddie. That old match trick could get you or something or someone else burned. My old trick when around 14 was taking a small diameter aluminum tube, laying it on a stump and putting a ball bearing into the tube, corked the end towards me and hit with a hammer and shoot the ball bearing out the other end. Only one problem, when I hit it with a hammer, it back fired and the cork shot me in the leg, real close to my. Oh, never mind.

We used to take a rubber band and attach it to each side of the spool and
then take a wooden stick match and put it in the hole , pull back on the
rubber band and let it fly.
If you did it just right , it would glance off the side walk and light. then
streak towards your target. Usually another guy shooting at you.
Or did you want a more constructive use for the empty spools?
