Well Deb, thanks for sharing your story with us. Mine is about 10 years old.
I began by going to a charity auction and winning a rod and reel. I saw
someone casting a flyrod on the river outside my backdoor and decided I best
use my winnings so began practicing on the lawn. Of course the dogs and cats
thought that I was just entertaining them, so that was a bit more distracting
than I needed. I searched out a fly shop and took lessons, wherein I learned
the basics of casting and how much else I needed to "really" be a fly angler.
LOL

The following year, after losing more flies to the limb-fish than I could buy
in a single trip to a fly shop, I reasoned that I ought to tie my own flies.
To save money! RIGHT! We all know what a slippery slope that is! But the
upshot is that I went to the same charity auction and purchased a fly tying
kit with everything I'd ever want (or so I thought at the time) to tie all the
flies I could ever use in a lifetime. [This was a huge tying kit...put out by
McKenzie Flies]. Thus began my real life!

Now the greatest amount of my assets are tied up in fly tying materials that
fill a large room in my home. Hahahaha. I'm so thoroughly addicted that I
NEED to tie to feel good about life and myself. I search for those obscure
materials and the new ones that just come out on the market. I really ought
to open a fly shop in this room! LOL {not really, I could never part with
this stuff--I might need it someday!} LOL

But I truly enjoy tying and fishing the fly. True peace and contentment wash
through me when I stand mid-stream, casting to native fish, of any size. The
Rivers I fish manage to bring me back to my heart and soul and when sitting at
the bench to tie I enter a meditative state of being that seems to supersede
all the trials of life and these times. It's a spiritual thing for me,
really!
And every day I learn again the truth that we are "spiritual beings having a
human experience, rather than human beings having a spiritual experience."

Thanks for asking!
Marguerite
