Does anyone have a table that converts tippet X to mono #?

Del...

That is very dependent upon manufacturer...they all vary. Plus type of material can come into play...ie standard mono vs fluoro...

In way of an example here are the ratings of three different Dai-Riki tippet materials in 4 sizes...

Dai-Riki Standard Tippet...

X-size Dia Lb Test

3X .008 8.25
4X .007 6.00
5X .006 4.75
6X .005 3.50

Dai-Riki Velvet Tippet...

3X .008 7.25
4X .007 5.30
5X .006 4.40
6X .005 3.75

Dai-Riki Fluorocarbon Tippet...

3X .008 8.50
4X .007 5.60
5X .006 4.40
6X .005 3.40

So you can see that different materials will have different strengths for like diameters. The important thing to consider when looking at different makers of tippet is to really compare the strengths to the actual diameters. Some of the makers of "so-called" super strong tippets are often misleading by stating they have a 5X tippet at 6 lbs...but when you actually measure the diameter of the mono it turns out to be 4X.

I happen to be very fond of the Dai-Riki material...it is very close to true-to-size and over the years has been very consistent. I've been using the stuff for over 20 years now. It has very little memory...a simple stretch will straighten it right out.

BTW...it just happens to be on sale at Line's End right now...;^)))))
