I finally got on the water today!!!! Went for brim at a local pond. got 12 brim, and 2 bass. The brim were on a nymph with 2 white rubber legs and the bass were on the hopper I was using to suspend it.
Lost more that a few fish to not enough practice <vbg>. The last fish of the day was the best though. I was trying for another bass on the hopper (I had taken the nymph off) and had something take it. Thought it was a bass, but when I striped to set the hook, I got a surprise, 'Twas no bass, but a runaway golden freight train!! My first CARP!! I know it was a carp, cause it rolled when I set the hook seconds after it ate the hopper. I never got it to the shore, there was no stopping it on a 4# tippet. I let it run a bit, then tightened the drag a bit and it broke off. was a good thing though, I was almost out of backing!!
Now a report on how the new rod cast. In a word, GREAT!! I have no problem double hauling, spey casting, roll casting ect..... its sensitive and responsive and a gem to use. Thank you so very Much Jimmy D!
All in all, a great and fun trip!!
