I have caught a few 22-26 inch "Lake Snakes". Since I don't fish for them, they are a nice surprise until they get to the boat. Since I didn't use wire leaders, and don't have pliers (as I am fishing freshwater), and since the fly is usually deep in their mouth, more than 50% of the time they leave a nasty scar on my thumb - one that take a couple weeks to heal completely.
If I planned to fish for them I would use wire leaders and disengorging tools just like fishing for blues or barracuda. Thanks, Chris.
