I have caught a few 22-26 inch "Lake Snakes".

Since I don't fish for them, they are a nice surprise until they get to the
boat.   Since I didn't use wire leaders, and don't have pliers (as I am
fishing freshwater), and since the fly is usually deep in their mouth, more
than 50% of the time they leave a nasty scar on my thumb - one that take a
couple weeks to heal completely.

If I planned to fish for them I would use wire leaders and disengorging
tools just like fishing for blues or barracuda.
