Deb and I decided that a short story to the VFB was warranted with my
luck in the drawing at the Wilmington FFS!
As a member of UFT I have always volunteered to teach at the first timers
table at the shows or do the fund raising and stuff.
This year I took my husband(who introduced me to fly fishing) so he could
photograph the Northeast Fly Tying Competition for our Roundtable
Newsletter I edit, and while he was getting his NH fishing license I
filled out the form the show has for the grand drawing of a dinner with
Lefty Kreh and Flip Pallot, or a trip to Costa Rica or a great kayak, I
was dreaming of Costa Rica for our 30th anniversary.
Waiting there I figured I NEVER win, we went off I papered the show with
flyers for our upcoming auction and then went to the UFT booth to work, he
went to see all the vendors. What I never knew because our UFT booth was
very busy, was he had left the show to help one of his new software
engineers on his first customer site visit who was in trouble.
While at home he got the call for me from the show manager and told him to
go to the UFT booth for me. When Paul came I was teaching this kid with no
conception of left or right, with a big Mom helping, then he told me I had
won THE DINNER!!
Needless to say I was shocked and surprised, after the excitement, I
offered the other side of dinner to our President, a VP and Deb who had
her 2 boys with her, and others, but I knew I couldn't get Byard or Jerry
to keep the kids for Deb to so Jerry and attended together!
The evening was more than expected , we gained more to fly fishing
knowledge of Florida and other spots than we could have bought at any price!
