Question for my fellow loonies out there.....Some of you know i started
tying this past winter and over the past months, the tying has gotten
better. My kit is at work and the vise comes out during the more stressful
times. Thankfully, my general manager is an understanding sort.

Anywho...one of the drivers goes on an annual sabbitical to Quebec with a
few of his friends. They fish the Lake of the Black Robe. I gave Ben an
assortment of flies i tied to try them out.
The majority of the brookies the group caught were, by the depthfinder,
holding around 167 feet. Surface water was warm HOWEVER, one morning
around 4:30a, Ben was working his flyrod in the shallower ends of the Lake,
when working one of my creations, hooked a 2 pound 10 oz male brookie,
complete with hook jaw!!!! The brookie trashed the hook and when landed,
Ben found the hook was bent too. The guide he was with told him that if i
used clear nail polish when i was done tying, the fly would've held up
better. I use head cement after a whip finish. Here's the question...head
cement or clear nail polish??? My whip finish is done by hand and all the
other ones i use are holding up. I have an idea that either will work but
the teeth on this fish might've been the culprit behind the trashing. Any
thoughts??
