Austin, Right now I have Dacron on all of my saltwater reels.  I have no complaints against it.  That being said, I want to try gel-spun on one 12wt rig just to see how it performs.  One advantage of thin diameter may be less line drag in the water when 4 to 500 yards of backing are being pulled sideways through the water at 40mph.   On the down side, my Abel holds 700 yards of 30lb dacron backing.  Up that to 1500 yards of gel backing and I could be reeling in slack all afternoon after being spooled by a big one.   DonO ----- Original Message ----- From: Harvey, Austin To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, October 13, 2004 2:26 PM Subject: [VFB] Gel spun backing Does anyone have experience with gel spun backing?  Pros vs. Cons, real life experience?
