I've got 20# gel spun on my 12 wt rod (the reel is
samllaer than it should be, bought the largest reel I
could afford at the time), but thus far I haven't
caught anything big enough to take me into the
backing...mainly due to lack of time to go fishing.
You do need to be careful putting the gel spun line on
so you don't "bury" some wraps. you want the stuff to
come off the reel smoothly. Whatever you do, don't
put any pressure on the gel spun with your fingers
with line going out on a big fish...that's a sure
recipe for cut fingers.
