I haven't had much trouble with poor quality flies in
the swaps I've hosted. that may be because most
people know that if I host a swap the flies are going
to get scanned (or maybe photgraphed, still working on
getting a decent digital camera, we oredered one and
it was defective...) and the recipes put up on a
webpage. Maybe that inspires a bit of extra effort.
I have, in general, recieved very nice flies from the
swaps I've participated in.

My take on this is that I don't want anything with my
name attached going out without having put in a worthy
effort in it. When I tie a pattern for a swap, the
first four or five I tie are seen only by me and the
fish, until I get the pattern down to my satisfaction.
It may be even more if it is a pattern that is new to
me, and I have to learn a few new techniques. You
also won't see me in many trout fly swaps, since I
moved from Michigan in 1987, I've only tied a few for
friends, and to tell the truth they are servicable and
nothing more. My forte is warmwater and saltwater, so
I tend to stick to that fairly closely. another
reason is that my hands are still very stiff from
tendon damage from when I was ill in 2002. they are
very slowly getting better, so I am getting more
dextrous, but the right hand is still quite stiff (and
of course, I'm right handed...). So it easier for me
to stick to things size 10 and larger, which is all
you need for warmweater panfish, bass and saltwater.
Fits perfectly with where I live in southwest
Louisiana, so I've got few complaints.
