I need some ideas for mouse patterns.  I'm doing a 7 day float in Alaska in August and one of the recommended patterns is a mouse.  I've never tied mouse patterns before and any help would be appreciated.  I'm not looking for anything like Don O's "special mouse" patterns, just something that'll work that I don't need to spend hours at the vise tying.

Some other questions:  Are tails, ears and whiskers really necessary?  I would think tails would be but if the fish is keying on the general size and shape do they really see the ears?  How about eyes?  What sizes?

Thanks in advance for the help.

A simple mouse pattern would be to tie on a thin leather strip or chamois for the tail and then pack the hook with as much spun deer hair as possible then trim it to shape. As for eyes there should be no need and ears and whiskers can be made from the way the hair is trimmed. Here is a link to a pattern.

Good luck ,
Bart
