Subject: [VFB] Fishing Report - Jimmy D

Almost forgot to let you know how I fared with my fishing yesterday. I
fished the South San Gabriel River, which is about 2 miles north of my
ranch, near Leander, TX. I really wasn't expecting a lot of action, but
the warm days we've had lately really brought the fish out. Yesterday's
temp was 78 and wading was a pleasure, expecially on a hard, level
bottom stream. I guess the San Gabriel would equate with some of the
Chalk streams of the UK. I caught a bunch of assorted sunfish, mostly
bluegills and warmouth. Caught them on some of Rick's and Ridderbos
bluegill bugs. (They work well, guys). Most were about the size of your
outstretched palm. Saw a few sand bass coming up stream to begin their
annual spawn, but they were not interested in what I had to offer. But,
by the end of the month and all through February, the Sandies will be on
the rampage. Sometimes they get so thick in the water that it doesn't
make much difference where you put your fly. When they're after shad,
they are in a killer mode.
