Dave
I wasn't put off by them at all, I just didn't have time for both. I
started out with the VFB and they taught me a lot so I've stayed with it.
I signed up for a short time on one other site and it took way too long
sorting through the emails and they didn't have a lot of good fly tying
information and weren't always the friendliest. No one was ever rude
to me but they really slaughtered some over zealous new comers so I just
logged back off. I didn't want to read that. I've found the VFB to be very
tolerant of other people, heck they even put up with several multiple
personalities, so I just browse other sites every now and then that don't
require you to receive email for information and I don't really participate.
I still have to try the Veniard dyes. They make me nervous. The
instruction page is too long. :) I have several of them so I will have to
get out the rubber gloves and be brave. VBG
Warm regards,
Deb

Subject: Re: [VFB] Dying Feathers

Hello Deb:
thanks for the reply. Most interesting. Half/Half water/vinegar? Ill
have to give it a go. I usually use the Veniard dyes, but they can be
problematical at times. I found some Australian wool dyes awhile back
and very pleased with the results. Try using a crock pot (flea markets
have them cheap) They work great.
Thanks for the tip on the feather dusters! Home Depot is just down the
road.
Deb: Do you know of a reliable source for Rhea feathers? (S. American
ostrich)
Im trying to make a sub for Quetal hackle. (see John Mclains #2 Blacker
fly).
BTW, Im sorry if you were put off by the FFF site. Ive had very good
results there and I even sold some IC to one new member. (which I was led
to by J. Mclain)..needless to say, John is quite enthused and dedicated
to this form.
Well, Deb, Stay warm!
It aint too hot here either!
