I don't know the principle of it, but 90 to 95% of my flies are tied barbless.  I don't have any problem landing fish, and the hook doesn't seem to slip back out any easier than with barbed hooks.

Folks: It is COLD... So I have been watching and re watching videos i have. I have a VHS tape I got with My started kit that has Lefty Kreh in it, and he made a very interesting statement... I'm not saying he is wrong, cause he was fly fishing LONG before i was even thought up LOL... Anyway, he made this statement "I have used barbless hooks since 1956 for everything but Tarpon and sailfish, because I find that I catch MORE fish"...How can this be??? Long as you keep the line tight yes, but don't you loose fish as soon as you get any slack in the line and the hook slips right back through the piercing it made???? Sign Me confused as to how this works, Chuck
