Looking at a photo of a fly in a magazine just ain't the same as
seeing a fly in person. I'm sure there are other great or greater tyers
around, but this is my take on the best of the VFB.
I have to agree with Jimmy D here - the best flies I've seen were three-dimensional... That said, I have some 'favourite tyers' if you will. Denny Conrad and Bruce Whittle come to mind, as I simply love woven-bodied flies. I don't think that he is on the VFB, but Petru Dima is my all-time favourite for style when it comes to woven-body flies. In general? I say the best fly tyer is the one willing to teach yet not so cocky (bondhu?) as to not receive teachings for their own. Just my 2 cents...
