Not to many of the lakes I fish have trout in them, but I have trolled flies.  In fact, I think the first fish I ever caught on fly rod were caught while trolling a popper about 1/2 mile off the beach at Wildwood, NJ.  The popper was the only thing the snapper blues could get their mouths on and stay hooked.  I also do it when I'm on my Ontario trip each year.  We often troll between spots and I'll run some 7-10 inch flies that are a bugger to cast with my 8 wgt behind the boat, or if we're in a weedy area I've got some weedless flies in 4-8 inch range that I'll troll.  Certainly, don't have a problem with it.

Well now folks. A little change in scope for you.

Id like to know if anyone of you go trolling flies for trout on the lakes? And by trolling I mean out in your boat with the outboard(Oars) and just spinning up and down your favourite haunts with the flies (30-40) yards out behind!? The very same as trolling small rapala's et cetera for trout early and late in the season.

If so, Id love to see................

1. What your best flies are

2. Any techniques you use when trolling? i.e do you drive in a S shape, do you weight your flies, do you combine with a bait such as a tasmanian devil!?

3. Anything else that you would like to mention!

This is a big thing on the Irish lakes and each year, before the duckfly (Chironomids) and after the early Olives (Mayflies) you will see most practicing it.

Looking foward to hearing from you!

Ronan.
