Hi everybody,

I didn't get much response when I asked for testers, but I will try
again... (they say hope is a virtue!)

bttv2 (a version of bttv modified provide a v4l2 interface) is currently
pretty much alpha, but it works well for me. At the moment only preview
mode is supported, but capture support is comming along fast. What I
really need is a few people with all those cool i2c goodies to give it a
bash, and see if lirc, stereo, volume, bass, treble, etc. all work (they
should because I just wrap the old bttv stuff up in v4l2, but I don't
have such a card, so I can't test it).

OK why a v4l2 driver? The main reason I use v4l2 is for video capture.
It has proper multi-buffering, and timestamping, which are absolutely
essential for good capturing.

Why this v4l2 driver? My last attempt (bttv-v4l2) worked well, but was
based on the v4l2 reference driver, and thus completely differnt from
bttv. This version is based on bttv, and thus supports all the fancy
extras (I hope) that bttv does. Also, the bttv driver (and to a lesser
extent bttv-v4l2) have a number of possible race conditions, which
result in occasional system lockups. This driver is designed as a
clocked synchronous state machine, which I hope will prevent all
existing lockups.

(OK, if I must be honest, one of the main resons is that I spent a lot
of time on this, and don't want it to have been a waste ;->)

So if you feel like lending a helping hand to this effort, please go to
http://www.ee.up.ac.za/~justin/bttv2, have a look at "INSTALL", and give
it a try.

It can co-exist fairly well with bttv, so swapping between the two is no
problem at all.

Thank you,

-justin
