Ok,
The problem has gone away after upgrading the xserver. I'm running
now version:
XFree86 Version 4.0.1g / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6400)
Release Date: 29 November 2000
Moreover, the picture is really clear now ! 8-)
