so where does my work live? 'where does my work come alive?'.. the only answer i think i have right now is anywhere but on my own computer.

the idea of where your media will live/reside -be archived- is more complex than the point of either having a vlog or using a large social networking service.
first, everyone should be archiving their media offline as well... if you want to share it with people years from now.... children/grandchildren etc.... dont count on any host.  archive it on DV tape and DVD and whatever new technologies come out over the years. 
Eventually, it may become more common to share the media directly from your home to your family and friends homes....Acess to your life's media wont necessarily rely on remote servers hosting it for you. 

for public domain media that you put out there..... let's hope that IA and others with same mission to preserve media always exist for the world.

most of us wil probably hold on to domain names that identify us....
this should be enough to guide people to 'you' wherever the bits of you reside and are found at.  maybe a future google will be able to gather and organize your scattered media for you upon request... as meta data and file identity conventions and technology become more common. 

for years, families have kept video footage of life and passed them on..... offline.
there is no reason why that should not continue, just because we now have a network at our fingertips.

hmm.. interesting idea.. 'where does my work live?', in some ways i'd like to think that each of my films stands on its own, although in reality only a few do.  i guess once i publish i'm happy for them to live anywhere (as long as i get some control of viewing size ;) but that's from another debate!).
my work hasn't ever become 'viral' as such but now and again i do find it taking on a life of it's own that i wouldn't have expected. for example recently one of my films turned up on a christian blog and was being used to start a debate about the meaning of friendship. CBC in Canada have just purchased some of my films for broadcast, still not sure how happy i am about that but i guess it's just another life for them (and it helps pay for some equipment + food!).. originally i was a bit more hard-nosed about it and i put everything on ourmedia or blip and set up the feed and site myself. now i'm putting stuff all over the place, youtube, myspace etc etc. 
When i started doing this the idea was about 'showing', i wanted to document things and share them with people, RSS and Fireant et al made this easy and help create a working system, i think myspace does a similar thing, it's a different social network though,  via fireant i was engaging with people who were doing the same already ( i.e. other videobloggers) , with myspace i'm seeing an audience who aren't, maybe seeing this stuff will inspire them to?

(p.s. also, if anyone is wondering why my blogspot has been so quiet recently it's because my camera is in the repair shop, although i think i might start some revlogging soon to keep the flow going)
