If one remembers the great old days of the production code when you were not
allowed to show a LOT of things, a strange thing happened. Filmmakers got
extremely creative in getting "around" what they could NOT show and I
personally think they made better films. If they could not show two people
having sex they could show the walls of Jericho falling or a door being
blown open between two rooms. Imagine artists forced to be more creative to
get around restrictions.

I actually only listened to the start of the clip (busy) day, but was
anything Lessig said related to the idea of stealing (sorry I mean
streaming) whole films without compensating the people who made them? The
issue of restrictions on using music, clips etc is an important one, but not
exactly the same as copying & using an entire work to merely make it more
accessible for students.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
