Dear VideoLib Colleagues, The "Notable Videos for Adults" committee is seeking nominations for the best non-fiction films released in 2010 and 2011. Your nominations are ultimately filtered down into a list of 15 outstanding titles, and those final 15 films serve as an important collection development tool for our profession.
Further, because the "Notables" nominations come from libraries (both patrons and librarians), the final list serves to recognize the amazing power of non-fiction film while also reflecting the unique viewpoints of libraries. With your input, I don't doubt that this committee will view many amazing, though perhaps under-valued films. Maybe we can help change the under-valued part? After reading these guidelines, please consider nominating a film: * The film must be non-fiction (though the committee welcomes any type of non-fiction including animation, instruction, personal narrative or documentary). * The film must be intended for an adult audience. * The film must be released on video in 2010 or 2011. * The person nominating the film must be entirely unaffiliated with the film. If you would like to submit a nomination, please go here: http://www.tacoma.washington.edu/library/media/vrt/notable.cfm If you would like to read more about Notables or its past selections, go here: http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/rts/vrt/notablevideos/index.cfm And, of course, if you have any questions that neither page answers, go to me. The bottom line: your input is essential, and quite honestly I really look forward to watching the films that made you, and will make me, see the world a little differently. Best, Mary. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
