In the future, when we have to replace a player, the college is planning to purchase mulit-region Blu-ray players. The college recently purchased one for my office. What keeps me from purchasing Blu-rays is the price difference? On average (for our library), a Blu-ray costs $10.00 more than a DVD. We calculated that if we had bought all Blu-rays last year, we would have cut our media budget by roughly two-thirds. Lake Forest College has a very small media budget and every dollar counts. VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
