The faculty member who is interested in this has her own French-only DVD
release, but was really looking for one with English subtitles for use with one
of her classes. All of these currently available on amazon.ca appear to be
French-only versions. Thanks for your help.

Well it is out of print but there are used copies that are not insanely
expensive since that is the only option it seems reasonable.

Sorry I did not think of that, for FRENCH films this something to check,
sometimes English but mostly French. Not so much any other country

I bought a copy region 1 with English subtitles in Canada. Canadian release.
This was a while ago. Check amazon.ca<http://amazon.ca> they have some copies
not sure how legal those are, also kind of expensive however the film is worth
that price
Good luck

You could try to see if it was released in the UK and get a PAL copy but it was
never released in the US and asking the rights holder to sell one DVD with
English titles in NTSC on a film they failed to sell in the US is not likely to
work and not worth tracking them down.
Keep in mind well over 90% of films made outside the US are not released here.
