  Bram is proposing a new insert mode command Ctrl-G Ctrl-O that is
  like the current insert mode command Ctrl-O except that the
  proposed command will preserve the . command in those situations 
  wherein the what's done after Ctrol-O does not move the cursor 
  and does not change any text.
