It's pretty easy to install the free Express version, see: http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Build_Vim_in_Windows_with_Visual_Studio Debugging would require using the GUI which requires registration (if used after the first 30 days). I haven't worked out exactly how to use it to debug properly, but I did get it going by building with: nmake -f Make_mvc.mak debug=yes gui=no and using VCExpress to open vimd.exe (then File, Open to open source files and set breakpoints etc).
