Last time I tried it, you could notice the rendering difference typing
ls -la on a directory with a few hundred files.  Maybe the newer
version has improved, last time I tried was maybe 8-12 months ago.

Personally, I prefer monaco to bitstream vera mono, so I guess this
doesn't affect me.
