I'd emphasize Ethan's point about the help.  Learn to use it, and you've 
learned to use vim, by and large.

For some ... maybe.  After a decade and a half I was still learning, and after 
that vim's help told me more about vi.  I mention this so as not to discourage 
the OP, just in case he's merely mortal.
