I'm nitpicking, but I think vi derivatives is more accurate.

If they were clones, they would behave IDENTICALLY to vi.

But these programs, or at the very least vim, is a derivative of vi,
at least from the user interface point of view.  (I have no idea if any of
them took the original vi code and went on from there.)

Again, at least vim, is _almost_ a superset of vi... But since there are
some behaviors that are different (":help vi_diff.txt"), that's even more
ammunition that it's a derivative and not a clone.
