A couple of other thoughts: If the new hard drive is not from Apple (i.e., no Apple ROM on the drive), the regular drive setup program won't see it. You'd have to use a 3rd-party formatting program to initialize it before it would show up. For example, I use Disk Manager Mac. Another issue is proper termination. The internal drive has to be terminated properly to be seen on the SCSI bus.
