Well, the way I do it, though I have heard objections,
is to "hug" the Mac to my chest, suspended CRT down,
over a towel on the kitchen counter (an inch or two).
Then, with the screws  in the handle area partially
inserted (couple of turns), press down on the screw
with the long Torx driver.

The case will start to separate. After 1/4" or so, I do
the same with the case bottom screws. When the case is
separated 1/2" or so at top and bottom, I remove the screws
and lay the Mac face down on the towel. I can then lift
the case off, sometimes using fingers to help finish the
separation.
