Perhaps you don't fully comprehend the problem.

The slot into which the tool is inserted is very thin and requires a  
thin, but strong tool.

Steel fits the bill.

I have seen far too many 9" Mac cases from 128s to SE/30s which have  
been hacked and either cosmetically or physically damaged by the use  
of screwdrivers and similar, inappropriate tools.

An Apple "case cracker" or a modified Adjustable Clamp Co spring  
clamp are the correct tools for the job.

The suggestion, "I wouldn't use anything metal", is unhelpful.
