Thanks, guys, and especially PeterH. The drive works great, and I will find out when the tapes I just bought get here whether it will actually back things up and work or not. I found a program called FastBack that I got online, and I also noticed that the computer knows what the drive is anyway, at least in the SCSI chain. Again, thanks for the help.

The 40SC is a "block addressable" tape. With the original Retrospect which came with the drive, you could "mount" the tape and then access it as if it was a disk drive. The later Retrospect uses the drive conventionally. The drive is actually a 3M drive, which 3M abandoned shortly after it was introduced. The A/UX software for the WGS95 was originally distributed on 40SC tapes. Apple later went with HP DDS drives for its server products. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Vintage Macs group.
