An ANS has a proprietary processor which, although a 604e, just as in the 9500, has lots of added circuitry for testing and checking. It is more an IBM RS/6000 than it is an Apple PowerMac 9500. But it is neither an RS/6000 nor is it a 9500. It is a hybrid, designed, like Janus, to look both ways: first, towards the RS/6000 world, and its OS, and second, towards the A-AUI, ADB and AppleTallk world, but NOT its OS. Most users ignore the A-AUI, ADB and AppleTalk, and use generic 10/100 E-net cards, and operate "headless", without a console. Which is why the front of the ANS has a small LCD display unit for display of status. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Vintage Macs group.
