Hi,

You have to boot with the "Disk Tools'" floppy first and then run Apple's
HDSC setup.
Choose to "Initialise" the Hard Drive and afterwards choose "Test" to check
if the HDD is good.
Should you already get an error during Initializing then most likely the HDD
has bad sectors or other issues.

If you see that the "update drivers" button in Apple's HDSC setup is not
greyed out, then do this as well after initializing.

If the hard drive passes, then reboot with "Install Disk 1". You don't need
the "Install me first" disk.

Take Care,

Nico

Onderwerp: powerbook 165 problem

All,

I have a newly acquired Powerbook 165 in very nice c ondition. However, on
power up, I get the "disk question mark". I have a boxed set of 7.1 disks,
so I install the "Install me first" disk.

I then get the "Smiley Mac", then the installer menu. which basically has
me build a "Startup disk". Once the machine is booted, I have no indication
of a hard-drive present in the system. I switched the harddrive with a newly
acquired "brand new" 160Mb hard-drive and the situation is still the same.
