It has to be. Otherwise the drive would not automatically insert the
disk.

Well, I dont't know, but you simply have to disassemble the drive and
clean it from all dust and so on. You mustn't put any oil in there.
You can take some photos after each step so you know what you've done.
That's what I would do if I were in your situation.
