Presumably, the Power Book has a SCSI port. If one had the right adaptors,
then the HD could be connected just like a typical external drive.

That's what I had suspected. Mounting the Classic's HD as read-only would
have prevented the newer machine from altering any data which the Mac
Classic CPU depended on for start up.
