I downloaded 9.04 and burned it to a CD but what is the trick with 9.10? The
file doesn't seem to fit on a CD because Toast claims that it needs 705.6 and
my CD only has 702.8.  Are my discs anemic? Are there super CDs with a "smidge
more space" out there somewhere?

Try this:

<http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/9.04/release/>
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/9.04/release/

Or this:

<http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/9.10/release/>
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/9.10/release/
