The Thunderworks Port Adapter, is used for a connection to a Thunderworks scanner. There is a cable that comes out of the left side of the adpator that connects to the round serial port built into the Mac SE. You would be much better off connecting your null modem cable directly to one of the Mac SE Serial ports and by passing the Thunderworks adaptor. If you need to use the serial port on the Thunderworks adaptor make sure you plug the round cable into the serial port. (The Thunderworks adaptor is not a SCSI to serial converter, but it will change the round Mac Serial connector to the more common PC serial connector, if you plug the cable into the Mac serial port.) A null modem cable works fine for transferring information. It works the same on the Mac as it does on the Vic 20 or an Atari or PC. You mention there is software on the SE. Typically most Macs have ClarisWorks installed. ClarisWorks includes a communication module which can be used to do the transfer. The menus will tell you what protocols can be used for transfer. You will probably be stuck with XModem transfers until you get something more capable installed. MSWorks, and LotusWorks also included Communication modules that could be used. Terminal emulation programs of the time often ran as desk accessories and you might check the Apple Menu as well to see if a terminal application happens to be there. If it turns out you find no useful terminal application on the SE, you can send me a private message (reply to author) and I can make you a needed floppy. bill -- ----- You received this message because you are a member of the Vintage Macs group.
