If you boot with a Mac formatted disk in the Zip drive you shouldn't need an
extension (driver) for the Zip drive.

The "classic" Mac System and Mac OS use a small, hidden partition on disks
(other than floppies) to store a driver for that disk.

Any disks present during boot get the drivers loaded from the disks if there
isn't one for them in the System folder.

There's a program called Mt. Everything (dunno if it runs on System 6) that can
force the System to load drivers from disks connected or turned on after the
Mac is booted.
