Apple and Option by itself does the rebuild, and if you missed the XO in time it'll do the same thing.
It takes some gymnastics, but the best way to do it is to hold down apple, option, and X with your left hand, use your right hand to turn on the computer, then immediately go for the O with it. If you're particularly flexible, you might can get the whole combo with your right hand and use your left to turn on the computer.
