I have an LC II of my own that I attempted the same for this past February. I must recommend against Asante ethernet cards. Yes, they're the most common, but you'll need a hub/switch/router that cooperates with the card (limited to 10mbps period, etc). If you can find a different kind, just do it. Hopefully that might alleviate the trouble you might have with such. If you have System 7.1, just go ahead and stick with it. If not, you may consider putting System 7.5.3 on it. It's a tedious process requiring a second Mac that has a floppy drive and 17+ disks and to get used to lots of floppy swapping. Thing is, excepting my ethernet card troubles (card manufacturer's fault), it's design incorporates the necessary software for easier Ethernet configuration and connection.
