I'd recommend double-boxing it.
First, two layers of bubble wrap, one going each way.  Pay particular
attention to the corners.
Next, a box just large enough to accept the wrapped Mac.  Securely
tape it.
Finally, a larger box, with room on all all sides for foam peanuts, so
that the smaller box is isolated from the larger box by at least an
inch all the way around.  Fill with EPS so the the box is firm, with
no give.
This will make it across the country.
