+1 for UPS Stores. When they pack it, you get a level of "coverage" that you won't get if you do it yourself.
Here's a ferinstance: In November last year, I sold a PowerMac PMac G5 via eBay. I didn't have the orig box so I used a UPS Store to pack it and ship it. I watched them use double-triple bubble wrap and lots of peanuts all around and a decent box. When Gary Winters received the package, he claimed that it was received in near-destroyed condition. Since I had gone UPS all the way, they took the reins and sent inspectors repeatedly to his house and tried to get the item. UPS assured me quick payback if they found any damange, because they had taken on the burden of packing, etc. If I had packed it myself, things might have been dicier because UPS could have claimed it was damaged because of inferior packing. It turns out Winters was full of crap because he never responded to any UPS inspector visits and never produced any images of the "damaged" item for PayPal arbitration to follow. So it was not just my word vs Winters, it was me+UPS vs Winters. Things would have gone much differently if I didn't have UPS "backing me" when I had to deal with the wannabe thief (in addition to reporting damage, he demanded that I send him his auction payment *immediately*). Because of the buyer-centric policies at eBay/PayPal, my PayPal account was frozen while things were sorted out. My account would have probably been "damaged" if I didn't have UPS working things. >From now on for me, it's Steve-not-packing all the way. :) -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Charles Lenington Sent: Sunday, April 04, 2010 5:20 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: How to ship a compact mac Jeff wrote: > Hi List, > > Does anyone have any instructions on how to ship a compact mac? > Pictures would be great.
