This is all a bit more complicated than many are letting on. First, I would pick up a copy of Larry Pina's Macintosh Repair and Upgrade Book. In it he describes a complete upgrade package to get your Plus to the SE level. Be prepared to replace most of your caps. If some have already failed, the rest can't be far behind, and some can cause cascade failures of other components which are harder to replace.
