Hi, Original SE's also used the 20MB Miniscribe. The Conner CP3040a of 40MB was offered as an upgrade upon purchase. Anyway to help diagnose the problem it's important Elliott provides us with the brand and model used in his Mac SE.
The miniscribes and original Connor drives are as good as indestructible. They don't suffer of stiction issues but the engine that moves the heads, which can be accessed from the outside, often needs a bit of lubrication to make it run smoothly again. Even though WD40 is a cleaning fluid, it works perfect. The original SEs were provided with 40 or 80 MB Quantum Pro series full-height drives. Later, the LPS series of 1" height drives replaced the full-height drives. The drive bracket assumes the drive will be mounted upside down. Not the best choice, but it worked in the case of the Quantums. -- -- ----- You received this message because you are a member of the Vintage Macs group.
