As soon as his email came out I contacted Willi explaining that the rules are defined by the List Owner (Dan) and are enforced by the list nannies (there are six of us). We do not have the authority to unilaterally dictate new rules. Willi has indicated his intention on contacting Dan regarding this matter.
My personal belief is that there is no reason for these new rules as this list is quite a bit more restricted when it comes to swapping than the Swap list (once a year and list specific items is quite limited). I also see no reason a person should not be allowed to join/post just because they want to buy or sell something. The location information exists on the swap list because there were people "selling" merchandise and then not shipping it out... It is though to make a living scamming people once per year. If you read the entire Vintage Macintosh list rules there was clearly a lot of though given to keeping the integrity of the list. More rules might be warranted, but they should certainly be discussed and hashed out first. There has never been a requirement for location information on the Vintage Macintosh list and to my knowledge there has not been an issue as a result (of not requiring that information).
