 field is induced.  As there are magnet at one end
 and all it takes to make a magnet is to induce enough
 field.  It would be better for re use to bring an
 external enclosure (which I have a great working empty spare
 if anyone needs one to use) and use format or maybe even
 hard disk toolkit to secure wipe.

Yeah, just take along an old Mac like a IIsi or one of the LC pizza boxes or a 
PowerBook with external SCSI to wipe the drives.
