No one would advise you to put it in the bin. Removing the logic board sounds a 
little a "too-much" approach. If you have a Performa, a dead pram battery could 
stop it from booting. There are other causes.

With local talk you get a hybrid of Apple serial cable and phone connector. The 
Chooser shows the connected device if all is working right.

With serial cabling, I would sometimes tear my hair out until I realized I 
wasn't using a bi-directional cable (with arrows on the plug top pointing in 
two opposite directions. And remember that the phone components need phone plug 
terminators.


Everything else is just a matter of knowing which part is working or defective 
by testing and switching out.

Not only the connection doesn't work but to start it I always need to remove 
the logic board and then put it back - any ideas here ?

I definitely don't want to throw it in the bin just trying to find out how to
