It would seem that I can make a RS422 Mini Din 8 (mac) to RS232 D9
adapter easily, just tie the TX+,RX+ on the '422 side to ground,
and TX-, RX- to the TX/RX lines of the 232 side.
*** CAUTION *** RS232 uses ±12V signalling, RS422 uses TTL (0-5V)
signalling. You will need a level shifter to prevent the RS232 port
from blowing your Mac's serial port. These are, fortunately, quite
easily available in chip form.
The Mac's serial ports can easily handle +/-12V signal levels, they do
(did) it all the time with modems.
